About the frame: The Washington is yet another classic futon frame design.
Available in Rustic Walnut finish in full size only.  Easily converts into a bed.
These frames are made from Rubberwood (Parawood). Commonly known as the rubber tree or Para rubber tree, it is native to the Amazon Region of South America and is also grown in Southeast Asia. Rubberwood produces the latex used in rubber-based products. After the economic life of the rubber tree, which is generally 26-30 years, the latex yields become extremely low and the planters then fell the rubber trees and plant new ones. So, unlike other woods that are cut down for the sole purpose of producing furniture, Rubberwood is used only after it completes its latex-producing cycle and dies. Rubberwood wood is eco-friendly since the wood would otherwise go to waste.

About the futon: This futon is a Cotton Cloud original and is among our most popular futons. It is a versatile handcrafted futon that is designed for everyday use. This futon is ideally suited to be used every day as a sofa and the occasional bed. The Lovejoy is appropriate for heavier use rooms like living-rooms and family-rooms and is our most popular & best selling couch futon.  It has an estimated life span of 5-10 years.

At the center of this approximately 8" futon are two 2.5" pieces of HR convoluted piece of CertiPUR-US® Foam, which provides resiliency and support. This core is wrapped in 5" of naturally luxurious cotton batting that is processed locally to our exacting standards. A fluffy layer of high quality wool is the final layer, which enhances bodily warmth in winter and coolness in summer. All of the materials are protected by a heavy outer shell that features double-stitched seams. Our futons are tufted in order to keep all of the materials in place.

We fill our futons with a set formula but because batches of cotton can vary and we make our futons by hand, they don't always start their life at perfect mattress dimensions.  Usually a futon will begin up to three inches shorter than industry standard.  As the fibers inside compact, they spread outward often causing a gain of 1-3 inches.  This compaction process can take up to a year to accomplish.

CertiPUR-US® foam is a flexible polyurethane foam which has been rigorously tested and certified by an accredited laboratory to meet specific criteria for physical performance, content, indoor emissions and environmental stewardship. CertiPUR-US® approved foams are:

  • Low emission (VOCs) for indoor air quality
  • Made without prohibited phthalates
  • Made without ozone depleters (no CFCs)
  • Made without mercury, lead or heavy metals
  • Made without formaldehyde
  • Made without PBDEs

 

A note on ordering: unfortunately we cannot stock everything in our catalog, most futons are made to order.  This can take up to 2-3 weeks for your new futon or mattress to become available.  If you need something right away, please call the store and ask us to check inventory before placing your order online.  Otherwise, we will contact you when your order has been shipped.
